8 Days Old

Here is Beck at 4 days old...I forgot to mention that he came out weighing nearly ten pounds and was 21 inches in length...and all he does is eat!  He is opening his eyes more often now, and will spend up to two hours just looking around. We had an appointment yesterday with the pediatrician, and he's already grown an inch and is beginning to gain weight...I can't keep up with the demand for food!

1 Day Old

Well, he's here! Beckham Searle Welling was born on Tuesday, February 19th, at 10:24am. After 25 hours of labor and 3.5 hours of pushing, and arriving 2 days late, he showed us who is really in charge...there was no rushing him! Everyone is very healthy and we are in awe every day at such a miracle! These photos are from the hospital up through his first few hours!

         

40 Weeks and counting...

          Well...if an ice storm, huge valentine's dinner, jumping rope, losing power for three days, and the threat of a C-section hasn't gotten him out yet, then I don't know what else to try. At the 40 week checkup, the doctor thought maybe he was breached, and if that was the case, he'd be out by this afternoon. But, the ultrasound showed nothing but a perfectly ready, head-down baby, who was so squished in there that his forehead has a huge wrinkle in it. So, it's wait-and-see. When I asked the doctor what the percentage of women was who actually gave birth on their predicted due date. she told me less than 5%...I am about to become one of the 95%. The upside was that we were able to get some pretty clear ultrasound pictures, and his exact weight as of right now. At 8 lbs 5 oz, uterus space is at a premium right now.
