Mushaboom

Well...here it is. Our first entry. For those of you who have never had the pleasure (or adventure...depends on how you look at things and what time of year you attempt our driveway) of visiting our little house in the woods, here is your introduction!
When Doug and I first heard this song on the radio, we were pretty sure that someone had been watching us for a while and decided to write some lyrics that accurately summed up our location and lifestyle. You've probably all heard the song, but most likely didn't pay much attention to what the artist was saying...here it is:
"Helping the kids out of their coats
But wait the babies haven't been born oh
Unpacking the bags and setting up
And planting lilacs and buttercups oh

But in the meantime we've got it hard
Second floor living without a yard
It may be years until the day
My dreams will match up with my pay

                Old dirt road,
                Knee deep snow,
Watching the fire as we grow
                o - o - o - o - old
I got a man to stick it out
And make a home from a rented house oh
And we'll collect the moments one by one
I guess that's how the future's done oh

How many acres, how much light
Tucked in the woods and out of sight
Talk to the neighbors and tip my cap
On a little road barely on the map

              Old dirt road,
              Knee deep snow,
Watching the fire as we grow
               o - o - o - o - old "
We live on a road that was discontinued during WWII...which is when the state stopped maintaining it. The road continues for miles and miles past our house, with no other residents than a few deer and moose. The "trails" are mostly just used by us and a couple of four-wheelers...one can hike for days and not ever be on the same path twice. There are forgotten cemeteries and foundations everywhere, and lots and lots of quiet!
And, in case you don't believe us...here are some photos to prove it :)
